Shropshire County Cup Final 2018
Saturday 11th August
on the Old Green, Bowring BC

Newport v Sir John Bayley

The last time Sir John Bayley and Newport faced each other in the final of the County Cup was back in 2013, when they battled it out on a warm evening on the newer of the two greens at Bowring that saw the Wellington team from the SJB club come out on top by 52 chalks to win the cup for their first time.

Fast forward five years with the clubs, SJB having just four and Newport with seven players boasting very different lineups from their first cup final encounter, they met again at Bowring, but this time on a heavy rain affected night and on the other Old green, where the match was a much tighter affair as they shared winning cards, but the final result again went in Sir John Bayleys favour, winning by 15 chalks.

Both teams, now led by new captains, Chris Worthington(SJB) and Sam Millward(Newport) were quick to pay tribute to each others teams as county President Isobel Jones presented the prize winning trophies, including the recipient of the Alan "wishy" Dodd Trophy for his "player of the match" performance, Alex Jones (SJB)

WELL DONE EVERYONE
